The Los Angeles Kings seemed to be entering Saturday's game against the Carolina Hurricanes at their lowest point of the 2024-25 season. They had lost four straight, and had gone eight straight periods without even scoring a goal.
They were ending their road trip against a Hurricanes team that had been one of the best at home in the NHL with a record of 20-5-1 this season. However, in the end the Kings are returning to Los Angeles on a high note with a 4-2 win.
It seemed like the Kings were heading toward another loss as the Hurricanes started the scoring with Jesperi Kotkaniemi recording the first goal of the game. However, Phillip Danault responded soon after with a goal of his own and the Kings went into the second period tied with the Hurricanes.
Danault started this road trip with a goal against the Columbus Blue Jackets and now ends it with one. The goal-scoring for him has been down this season but he now has five, with the two in the past five games.
The second period was when they were able to really set the tone as Trevor Moore would add a goal in just over a minute into the period and Kevin Fiala would give them a two-goal lead with a goal later in the period. This was certainly a big goal for Moore as he had only six goals on the season and this was his first in 15 games.
As for Fiala, he wasn't done there as he had a goal in the third period that once again gave the Kings a two-goal lead. The Hurricanes made it a game with Eric Robinson adding a goal that made it 3-2 and the way the game was going it felt like whoever scored next was going to win. That ended up being Fiala and the Kings secured a huge win to end the road trip.
The Kings are returning to Los Angeles for three straight home games before the 4 Nations Faceoff where they will get some time off.
