The Kings returned to Los Angeles for a quick two-game homestand against division rivals Edmonton Oilers on Oct. 13 and the Boston Bruins on Oct. 17, with the team still searching for their first win of the season.

The Oilers scored first about seven minutes into the game when Leon Draisaitl scored his fourth goal of the season. Just a minute later, Edmonton went up  2-0 with Vasily Podkolzin scoring his sixth goal of the season, a power play goal. The Oilers continue to dominate when Connor McDavid scored his fourth goal of the season with less than five minutes remaining in the first. That ended the period with the Oilers leading 3-0.

At the start of the second period, Kings starting goalie Darcy Kuemper was replaced in favor of Anton Forsberg. The goalie change woke the Kings up and they played with more energy during the period. The Kings  finally got on the board with less than three minutes remaining in the second when defenseman Brandt Clarke scored his first goal of the season.

Unfortunately, this would be the Kings lone goal of the night.

The 4-1 victory was sealed for the Oilers via an empty-netter from Podkolzin, his second goal of the night, giving the Kings their fifth-straight loss.

Four nights later, the Kings continued their search for their first win to  against Boston. The Kings scored on the first shift just 31 seconds into the game when Alex Laferriere scoring his second goal of the season. Both teams clogged up the neutral zone and the first ended with the Kings holding on to a 1-0 lead.

The Kings held the lead throughout most of the second period until the Bruins tied things up at one-all with David Pastrnak scoring his fourth goal of the season, less than three minutes to go, ending the second with a one-all tie.

The Bruins took the lead seven minutes into the third period when Marat Khusnutdinov scored his second goal of the season. The Bruins went up 3-1 with an empty-net goal scored by Elias Lindholm, with less than two minutes remaining. With the net still empty, the Bruins won 4-1 with JJ Peterka scoring his third goal of the season with 17 seconds remaining in the game.

The Kings now embark on a five-game road trip on the East Coast starting Oct. 20 with games in DC, the New York Metro Area and concluding in Chicago, still looking for their first win.
