The Los Angeles Kings are currently searching for a new general manager but it might not be long before they are also looking for a new head coach for their AHL team, the Ontario Reign. According to reports, the Reigns' current head coach Marco Sturm has drawn interest from a number of NHL teams currently looking for a new head coach this offseason.

According to multiple reports, including Elliotte Friedman with SportsNet, the Vancouver Canucks have already spoken to Sturm for their head coach vacancy. Meanwhile, on Friday afternoon David Pagnotta tweeted that Sturm was under "serious consideration" for the job with the Boston Bruins.

Marco Sturm would be a tough loss for the Los Angeles Kings organization

Marco Sturm has been with the Los Angeles Kings since the 2018-19 season when he joined as an assistant head coach. He served in that role for four seasons before becoming head coach of the Ontario Reign prior to the 2022-23 season.

The Reign would make the playoffs in all three seasons he was head coach and had a points percentage of .625 or higher in each of the past two seasons.

Where he has made the most impact, and probably why NHL teams are interested in him as their next head coach, is that he has helped develop a number of players who have made an impact with the Los Angeles Kings. This includes players like Brandt Clarke, Jordan Spence, Alex Laferriere and Jacob Moverare.

One of the reasons for the success as highlighted earlier this year is that Sturm's focus is to utilize the Kings' system at the AHL level. This helps when players move up and they can make an immediate impact, like what Jeff Malott was able to do towards the end of the regular season.

It seemed like it was only going to be a matter of time before the rest of the NHL caught up to how good Marco Sturm is. That time might have finally come and the Kings might be looking for a new coach for the Ontario Reign.
