Why the Los Angeles Kings would draft Malcolm Spence in the 2025 NHL Draft

Malcolm Spence is a forward who plays with high energy and has good size to matchup against opposing teams. He uses that energy to be a force on the cross-check and fight for loose pucks.

He also has some excellent skills that make him a threat any time he has the puck, and that is either to pass it or shoot it. The Kings certainly have some players that fall into that category, like Quinton Byfield or last year's first-round pick Liam Greentree, but not many among their prospects after those two.

It makes sense for them to want to add a player like Spence but be prepared to wait a few years after he spends some time in the NCAA with the University of Michigan.
