The Los Angeles Kings could look for some dynamic playmakers in this upcoming NHL Draft and Cullen Potter could fill that need in the first round. Let's take a look at the player and what he could bring to the Kings if they selected him.
Cullen Potter Stats
In his first season with Arizona State University, Cullen Potter was very productive as a freshman. He would play in 35 games and finish with 13 goals and nine assists with a +/- of -1. He would also play for the United States in the IIHF U18 Men's World Championship and helped them secure a bronze medal with four goals and four assists in seven games.
Cullen Potter Scouting Report
This was part of the scouting report for Potter in the Elite Prospects 2025 NHL Draft Guide:
"At his best, Potter attacks at angles, blending explosive stop-and-starts, instantly translating from forward stride to cut to crossover. This is all possible due to Potter’s deep skating stance, accelerating out of every move, all while linking plays through difficult-to-read changes in pace. Through his mobility, Potter leverages space, operates with an independent upper body, funnels pucks to the inside, and slips pucks through traffic for teammates. "EliteProspects 2025 NHL Draft Guide
Cullen Potter Highlights
Why the Los Angeles Kings would draft Cullen Potter in the 2025 NHL Draft
There is a good chance that Cullen Potter will be selected before the Los Angeles Kings have a chance to select the Arizona State Sun Devil. However, if he is still available then Potter would be a great selection.
There is no question that Potter is on the smaller side, but with his speed and his skating ability, he can certainly make up for that. Right now, the Kings don't have many prospects who skate or can handle the puck like Potter.
This creates some risk but with the ceiling that Potter has, it might be worth it for the Los Angeles Kings.
