Coming out of training camp and the preseason last fall, Los Angeles Kings defenseman Jacob Moverare was a part of the NHL roster for the first time in his career. Moverare entered this past regular season as the seventh defenseman on the Kings' roster.
Even though he made the Kings roster going into this past regular season, he only played 15 games, which was the lowest total for him in Los Angeles since the 2022-23 campaign.
Jacob Moverare's performance for the Los Angeles Kings in the 2025-26 season
In the 2025-26 season, Moverare registered zero points and a -4 rating in 15 games played. Moverare had seven shots on goal, 12 blocked shots, three hits, and two takeaways.
The first real chance Moverare got to see live-game action for the Kings was when veteran defenseman Drew Doughty suffered an injury in mid-November. Moverare played seven consecutive games and then a handful more when then-head coach Jim Hiller and the Kings played with 11 forwards and seven defensemen in the lineup in January.
Los Angeles didn't ask Moverare to take on a larger role when he entered the roster lineup. Rather, he was expected to provide steady and serviceable defensive minutes, and for the most part, he accomplished exactly that last season.
The fact of the matter was that there wasn't anything Moverare was able to bring to the Kings that was much different than what the team already had on the roster on the blue line this past regular season. He was a reliable defenseman when the Kings needed to call on him in certain situations this past season, but there wasn't much that set him apart from the rest of the group.
2025-26 Season Grade: C+
Moverare's contract with the Kings ended following the conclusion of the 2025-26 season. With limited opportunities in Los Angeles this offseason, Moverare decided to continue his pro career overseas in Europe.
After he went unsigned in unrestricted free agency this summer, Moverare ended up signing with a team to return to his home country of Switzerland for this upcoming season. He will be playing for EV Zug in Switzerland's National League in the upcoming 2026-27 season.
