The Los Angeles Kings entered the 2024-25 season with some questions at the goaltender position. Last season, Cam Talbot had a career resurgence with the Kings and was able to turn that into a nice contract with the Detroit Red Wings in free agency.
This meant that the Kings would be looking for a new starter and would end up trading Pierre-Luc Dubois to the Washington Capitals for Darcy Kuemper. At one time, Kuemper was a Stanley Cup winning goalie during his time with the Colorado Avalanche but struggled a bit the past few seasons.
He was expected to be paired with David Rittich, who was returning after his first season with the Kings in 2023-24. Collectively, the end results have been pretty great as the Kings currently are near the top of the league in goals against per game with an average of only 2.45.
Outside of these two, the Kings have also had Erik Portillo start one game and Pheonix Copley play some in relief earlier this season. However, the sample size is too small to give grades to either player at this point of the season.
