The Los Angeles Kings and new general manager Ken Holland are getting some future draft assets and capital on the trade block and before the trade deadline on Thursday afternoon (March 5), sending winger Warren Foegele to the Ottawa Senators in the East for a return of a 2026 second-round NHL Entry Draft pick (originally from the Buffalo Sabres).
Warren Foegele dealt by the Los Angeles Kings to the Senators for a return of a second-round draft pick this year for 2026
The Senators and Kings are also exchanging conditional future third-round draft picks in the trade deal on Thursday afternoon today. Ottawa had originally used their second-round draft pick this year for 2026 in the trade with Dylan Cozens and Joshua Norris on the trade block before the deadline.
The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta was the first to report the news of the trade on Thursday afternoon that the Kings traded Foegele to the Senators in Ottawa in the East for a return of a second-round draft pick this year in 2026.
This news comes after there were multiple reports and rumors this past couple of months in the West that Holland and the Kings' front office were at least kicking the tires on the possibility of trading Foegele on the block this regular season.
Foegele was a healthy scratch at times in the active roster lineup this regular season in the West in the Pacific Division for the Kings. The rumors surrounding the possibility of the Kings trading Foegele this regular season also ratcheted up on the block and before the deadline this month late this week after LA acquired star forward Artemi Panarin from the New York Rangers this past month on Feb. 4 before the roster freeze for the three-week break for the Olympics.
This past season in the West, Foegele was really impressive on the stat sheet for the Kings in the Pacific Division. He registered a career-high two-dozen goals and a career-high 46 total points for the Kings and former head coach Jim Hiller this past regular season.
Since the Kings and new interim head coach DJ Smith don't have a dozen healthy forwards in the active roster lineup on Thursday night to host the Islanders from the East, the coaching staff recalled forward Jared Wright from the Ontario Reign from the AHL late this afternoon.
