In the past couple of weeks, early this regular season, the Los Angeles Kings have found some overtime and shootout magic on the road in the Western Conference. The Kings have won three games in overtime and shootouts this fall early in the regular season, including two in a row to build momentum on this five-game West road trip against the Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues this week.

Overtime franchise record matched by the Los Angeles Kings after going into OT or a shootout five times in the past eight games

It looks like Jim Hiller and the Kings have started to level out regarding their success on the right side of the win column early this regular season. The Kings have won two games in a row, both coming in overtime on the road this week thanks to clutch goals from winger Adrian Kempe in the past few days.

Yesterday was the first time the Kings beat the Stars in Dallas in over a half-decade (since the 2018-19 season). The Kings should be proud of the hard-earned two points they got in two difficult environments to play in this week in St. Louis and Dallas.

Per Stathead, the Kings have tied the franchise record for the most overtime and shootout games played after eight games. The Kings tied the 1995-96 team for the most overtime appearances to start the regular season, with five.

The Kings are proving to fight tough in these difficult games in the West to help the team advance up the standings in the Pacific Division this fall.

Kempe is on a great pace for his own stat line early this regular season for the Kings. He's the only player in the NHL this season who's scored over 10 points and has multiple game-winning goals and a half-dozen takeaways.

Kempe has scored both game-winning goals in overtime for the Kings this week in the West against the Blues and Stars this past Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.

Hiller and the Kings are 3-0-2 this season in overtime and shootout games, including key wins in extra time over the Blues, Stars, and the Vegas Golden Knights in the West this fall.
