The postseason in the playoffs in the West starts for the Los Angeles Kings and interim head coach DJ Smith this upcoming weekend in Game 1. The Kings made a move to the active roster lineup to get more veteran depth by recalling goalie Pheonix Copley from the AHL affiliate Ontario Reign on Saturday morning (April 18).

General manager Ken Holland and the Kings in the front office have plenty of space and cap space in the active roster lineup for Copley to join. The Kings probably made this move in the postseason in the playoffs because the NHL is now requiring teams to be compliant in the active roster lineup with having three goaltenders, as per the new collective bargaining agreement signed by the league.
Forsberg and Kuemper are expected to be the top two goaltenders for the Kings this upcoming postseason in the West this spring vs. the Colorado Avalanche in Game 1 in the playoffs this upcoming weekend. Copley will be the Kings' third goalie in the active roster lineup this upcoming weekend in the postseason in the playoffs.
The Kings' PR page account on X on Saturday morning (April 18) officially announced the move that Copley was recalled from the Reign in the AHL in Ontario this weekend this morning.
Copley will provide depth for the Kings this upcoming postseason in the playoffs in the West this upcoming weekend behind goalies Anton Forsberg and Darcy Kuemper for LA and the coaching staff.
The 34-year-old veteran goalie Copley has proven experience playing this regular season and in this past few years in the league in the NHL for the Kings in LA. He started a game this past few months in the West in the Pacific Division for the Kings this past December 2025, against the Seattle Kraken on Dec. 23. He also played in a game in the East for the Kings this past couple of regular seasons in October 2024 vs. Toronto against the Maple Leafs on the road.
