New Los Angeles Kings second-round draft pick in 2026 (46th overall) and forward Liam Lefebvre has mapped out an interesting next step in his development late this summer.
Lefebvre, now one of the more promising young forwards in the Kings' prospect pool, officially committed to the Boston University Terriers on Aug. 24. This move gives the big 6-foot-3 and 205-pound 20-year-old forward a pretty clear path for the next couple of seasons as he continues his development and then eventually making the jump to professional hockey.
Lefebvre's commitment to Boston University to play college hockey early this week was announced by the team on their Instagram page.

This announcement comes after Lefebvre had originally committed to play for the University of Vermont Catamounts.
It won't be the first time that Lefebvre has played hockey in the United States in this past few years. He played some of his high school hockey years in the United States before taking his talents back to Canada to play major junior.
The Montreal, QC, native played the 2025-26 season in the QMJHL with Rimouski Oceanic before he was traded in the middle of the season to the Chicoutimi Sagueneens. He registered 32 goals and 59 total points in 59 games played in the QMJHL this past season.
Lefebvre was a key part of the Chicoutimi team that made a run to the Memorial Cup this past spring. He was traded again to the Cape Breton Eagles in the QMJHL this offseason and going into the upcoming 2026-27 season.
He showed that production could translate to the postseason, registering five goals and 12 total points in 20 postseason games in Chicoutimi's run to the QMJHL championship and the Memorial Cup. That gave the Kings another reason to be intrigued about his development entering the 2026 draft.
His commitment to Boston University is expected to be for the 2027-28 season, which means he will play one season with the Eagles in the QMJHL.
BU should be able to give him another strong destination to continue developing his game before potentially turning pro. He'll get to face an elevated level of competition against older players in NCAA college hockey.
For the Kings, they'll be able to watch one of their newest and most intriguing forward prospects develop in two different settings over the next couple of years before deciding if he's ready to take the next step toward NHL hockey.
Lefebvre's offensive production, skating ability for a forward of his size, and his physicality were among the traits that made him intriguing as a prospect going into the 2026 NHL Entry Draft, with the Kings ultimately selecting him 46th overall in the second round.
