LA Kings Olympics Day 7 Recap: Three OTs cap quarters

Three LA Kings players were in action in the quarterfinals round in the Winter Olympics today, including Sweden winger Adrian Kempe, Canada defenseman Drew Doughty, and Finland forward Joel Armia.

Los Angeles Kings fans got to see really high-level competition being played on the ice in the Winter Olympics in the quarterfinals elimination round on Feb. 18, including multiple players from the franchise still left in the field going into the semi-finals late this week on Friday (Feb .20).

Three out of the four games were an insane level of entertainment value on the ice for Kings' fans watching players from their team represent the franchise and their home countries in the Winter Olympics today in the quarterfinals elimination round on Feb. 18.

The first game that went to overtime in the quarterfinals elimination round on Feb. 18 that involved Kings players representing th franchise in the Winter Olympics in the middle of this week was defenseman Drew Doughty with Team Canada. Doughty and Canada survived a big upset bid push on the ice vs. Czechia and forwards David Pastrnak and Martin Necas.

This was really the first time that a team pushed Canada to the brink on the ice and on the scoreboard. Czechia had the lead on the scoreboard in the final frame late in the third period vs. Canada and Doughty.

There weren't any points on the stat sheet for Doughty, but he did make an impact on the defensive side of the ice for Team Canada. He helped Canada make a successful push on the scoreboard in extra time in overtime to claim the 4-3 over Czechia on the ice.

The next overtime exciting game that was played in the quarterfinals elimination round involving a Kings' player in the Winter Olympics was winger Joel Armia with Team Finland, surviving a late push in the final frame in the third period from Team Switzerland.

Armia and Finland were able to hang around on the ice and push the game on the scoreboard into overtime after being down by a score of 2-0 in the middle of the game vs. Switzerland. A few minutes into extra time in overtime, Artturi Lehkonen scored the game-winning goal on the scoreboard for Team Finland to help the Finnish advance to the semi-finals.

In the final game in the quarterfinals elimination round involving a Kings' player representing the franchise in the Winter Olympics was star forward Adrian Kempe with Team Sweden, pushing the United States to the brink in the final frame in the third period.

Kempe and Sweden gave the United States everything they could handle in regulation, including in the final frame in the third period. Sweden scored a goal to tie the game up on the scoreboard late in the final frame to bring the game to a 1-1 the in the third period vs. Team USA.

Kempe nearly pushed Sweden to a win on the scoreboard against Team USA, hitting the post on a scoring opportunity along with another shot on goal in the final frame in the third period on the ice.

Doughty and Team Canada will face Armia and Finland in the semi-finals on Feb. 20 in a couple of days. The United States faces Slovakia in the other semi-finals game in a couple of days on Friday.
