To start the day on Day 5 of the Winter Olympics on the ice, Team Switzerland powered through to an impressive and thrilling 4-3 win on the scoreboard against Czechia early in the morning on Sunday. Switzerland rallied to win that game without winger Kevin Fiala in the active roster lineup, who is out for the rest of the Olympics and the 2025-26 regular season in the NHL due to a lower-body injury.

Team Canada demolished France in round robin play this afternoon, by a mauling score of 10-2 on the scoreboard, to stay with an undefeated 3-0-0 record through the end of group play late this weekend. Defenseman Drew Doughty registered an assist and one total point on the game's first goal in the opening frame in the first period vs. France this afternoon late this weekend.

The win over France today secured the top overall seed and the top of the standings in Group A at the conclusion of round robin play late this weekend. Canada will get a bye to the quarterfinals this upcoming week.

The depth and playmaking that Doughty and Team Canada showed off in the eight-goal dismantling of France this afternoon were very impressive. Canada scored no fewer than three goals in any period, and nearly put up over 30 scoring chances and 46 shots on goal today vs. France.

Switzerland, meanwhile, got a huge win over Czechia late in the game on the scoreboard to get out of group play with a 1-1-0-1 record. That was good enough for the Swiss to get second place in the standings in Group A.

Unfortunately for the Swiss, Fiala is out for the rest of the tournament, making the path to the podium that much more daunting for head coach Patrick Fischer without one of their top playmaking forwards offensively this upcoming week on the ice.

Fischer did update Fiala's status after Switzerland's win over Czechia this morning on Sunday. He said that Switzerland is expecting Fiala to be released from the hospital on Monday (Feb. 16).
