While the Los Angeles Kings and most of the NHL are off, there is still plenty of news and rumors swirling starting with one of the Kings' top players impressed in the 4 Nations Face-Off on Saturday night. Let's take a look at that and some other news and rumors for the Los Angeles Kings.
Drew Doughty makes big impact for Team Canada
The hockey world was locked in Saturday night in a marquee matchup between Team USA and Team Canada in the 4 Nations Face-off. The game certainly lived up to expectations and started fast with three fights in just the first nine seconds of the game.
After that, the game was a hard fought contest between the two teams and while Team USA would win, Team Canada would actually strike first. It would be started with Drew Doughty making a perfect pass to Connor McDavid who used his speed to skate past everyone else for the first score.

While Kings' fans probably wish it was any other player who benefited from Doughty's pass, it was still a great play by the Kings' top defenseman. That wasn't the only play Doughty made and he was very solid throughout the entire game and earned himself the highest net rating of any player in the game.
The Los Angeles Kings have been without Drew Doughty for most of the season but if his play in this 4 Nations Face-Off is a sign of things to come for the rest of the season, this will be very welcomed news.
Could Jonathan Marchessault be a trade target for the Los Angeles Kings?
It is pretty clear what the Los Angeles Kings are looking to add at the trade deadline in terms of help with scoring, ideally a right-handed wing and one that can contribute on power plays. This past week, Karo Blikian of The Hockey News made a great case for the Kings to target Jonathan Marchessault.
This is his first season with the Nashville Predators after signing a five-year deal in free agency. However, the Predators are going nowhere and very unlikely to make the playoffs so trading a veteran like Marchessault makes sense.
He is also a player that checks all the boxes mentioned above and certainly improve the Kings' forward group. The proposed trade, Jordan Spence and 2026 second round pick, for Marchessault would be tough but the depth the Kings have on defense makes it certainly manageable.
Liam Greentree continues to impress in the OHL
The Los Angeles Kings add to their offense in the 2024 NHL Draft by using their first round pick on forward Liam Greentree. He is probably still a few years away but what he is doing in the OHL should have Kings' fans very excited about his future.
This season, Liam Greentree has 37 goals (which ranks 3rd in the OHL), 54 assists (4th in the OHL), and 91 points (ranking 2nd in the OHL). He began the season with a 12-game streak with at least one point and currently has a five-game point streak where he has 11 points during that stretch.

Another shorthanded goal for the @SpitsHockey comes from @LAKings prospect Liam Greentree who turns on the jets to beat out both defenders and makes an unreal move to score his 33rd goal of the season!#OHL | @CHLHockey pic.twitter.com/c0jkhIsJNn
The Kings and their fans are going to probably have to be a little patient as Greentree is a few seasons away but he should be a very good player once he arrives in the NHL.
