Just a couple of games into the 2026 Winter Olympics brought Los Angeles Kings winger Kevin Fiala's journey in Milan in Italy to a conclusion late this week. The Swiss Ice Hockey Federation announced late this week that Fiala will at least be out for the rest of the Olympics after suffering the lower-leg injury on Friday (Feb. 13).

Los Angeles Kings reportedly lose winger Kevin Fiala for the rest of the 2025-26 season due to a lower leg injury

Fiala suffered the left leg injury after a collision near the boards with Washington Capitals and Team Canada forward Tom Wilson. He had to be stretchered off the ice on his stomach after he suffered the leg injury with just a few minutes remaining in the game in the final frame in the third period yesterday.

Canada eventually won the game on the scoreboard by a score of 5-1 over Team Switzerland yesterday on the ice.

Elliotte Friedman reported on Saturday morning (Feb. 14) that Fiala had surgery early this weekend and that he will miss the rest of the 2025-26 season for the Kings. The exact nature of Fiala's injury hasn't been reported yet, but we do know it was a serious lower-body injury he suffered yesterday.

Fiala's Kings' teammate and defenseman Drew Doughty was out on the ice with the rest of Team Canada after the benches emptied to watch and support Fiala getting stretchered off the ice. Doughty spoke about the injury situation with the media after the game yesterday for Team Canada and Team Switzerland.

"Tough to see. Hopefully he’s gonna be fine quick, we need that guy on my team back home, big-time. That’s not something I wanted, obviously, to happen. Gonna go find him right now and see how he’s doing."

Fellow Kings' teammate and Sweden winger Adrian Kempe also gave his comments and thoughts on Fiala's injury after the Sweden win over Slovakia on Saturday morning.

"Obviously it’s sad and it sucks for him and for us (Kings). Sad for him. It’s something that we’ve been looking forward our whole life coming to play here and going down like that, it’s really tough for him personally and for us as a team, how much he means to our team back home in L.A. Yeah, just very unfortunate for him that it comes in a tournament like this that we’ve been looking forward to playing in for so long. I feel for him."

We will continue to monitor Fiala's injury status for any updates reported in the next 24 hours this weekend.
