A busier week this fall for the Los Angeles Kings this past week resulted in a pretty successful result for head coach Jim Hiller and staff in the past seven days. The Kings had an impressive shutout 3-0 win in a pretty quiet game by Darcy Kuemper and LA in the defensive zone against the Winnipeg Jets from the Central Division this past week on Tuesday night (Nov. 4).
Two wins in three games gets the Los Angeles Kings a major bump up the NHL power rankings after Week 4 of the 2025-26 regular season
Where Hiller and the Kings have found most of their success early this regular season is on the road in the West. The Kings have won an impressive half-dozen games on the road this fall, including a 3-2 comeback victory vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins in the third period on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 9).
It would be good in a development to see the Kings and Hiller be better and get more points on the right side of the win column in the standings in the division on home ice this regular season at Crypto Arena this fall. But the Kings have come close to gathering more points at Crypto Arena in the past couple of weeks, including a lead against the Florida Panthers in the first period last Thursday.
Led by Corey Perry and Kevin Fiala, the Kings got two wins and achieved four out of a possible six points this past week in the standings in the West. Perry stole the show in the past couple of weeks this fall for the Kings, leading the team in goals and plus/minus after playing just 10 games early this regular season.
We need to see if the Kings can continue to achieve more positive results on the road in the West this upcoming week amid a six-game road trip north of the border.
For the first time this regular season this fall, the Kings and Hiller rank in the top half of the NHL power rankings for Week 5, from The Hockey Writers this week. LA ranked in the top three best teams in the division standings this week, ranking only behind the Vegas Golden Knights and the Anaheim Ducks in these rankings in the top 10.
The Kings rose a dozen spots (the most of any team this week in the power rankings from The Hockey Writers) in the post-Week 4 NHL power rankings.
