LA Kings add wing depth, familiarity with Mathieu Joseph

The LA Kings added depth and a big body to the bottom-six forward lines group offensively this regular season in the West with former Blues 29-year-old forward winger Mathieu Joseph.

Multiple reports on Friday morning (March 6) that the Los Angeles Kings and general manager Ken Holland have reached an agreement for terms for a contract signed with former St. Louis Blues and Tampa Bay Lightning winger Mathieu Joseph.

This news comes after the Blues had reportedly terminated Joseph's contract and he had cleared waivers unconditionally from St. Louis on Friday to become a free agent on the open market in the West. Joseph signed a pro-rated contract deal with the Kings, which will hit the LA cap sheet roster salary for $900K for the rest of this 2025-26 season.

Elliotte Friedman was the first to report the news on Friday morning late (March 6) that the Kings had signed Joseph to a one-year contract deal and on the trade deadline late this week.

Joseph was in the final year of his current contract, which he signed with the in the early 2020s decade a few years ago for four years. His contract for four years with the Blues that he signed with the Ottawa Senators in the 2022 offseason a few years ago was worth just south of $3 million in average annual value in the cap hit on the salary cap sheet.

The Kings are getting a familiar face and wing depth on a value contract for the rest of this regular season this campaign in the West this upcoming couple of months in Joseph in the active roster lineup offensively. Joseph is a big and speedy winger who can give the Kings a physical edge in the active roster lineup in the bottom-six forward lines core group.

He also fills a depth need for the Kings, which needed to add more bodies to the active roster lineup offensively this regular season in the West after the team and the front office traded wingers Corey Perry and Warren Foegele in this past 24 hours on the trade block and for the trade deadline on March 6.

Joseph played for a couple of seasons in Ottawa under new interim head coach DJ Smith for the Kings. He registered a few goals and 15 total points on the stat sheet in over three dozen games with the Blues in the West this regular season in this past few months.
