Los Angeles Kings winger Kevin Fiala had two very different regular seasons in the Pacific Division in the 2024-25 campaign. Fiala started off the regular season averaging fewer than 0.5 points per game at 5-on-5 in the season's first three months.

He saw a decline in his second-unit power play minutes and started to take some bad and untimely penalties for the Kings and head coach Jim Hiller early on in the last regular season for LA. Fiala was even a healthy scratch for a game in the regular season's first half for Hiller and the Kings.

In the regular season's second half, Fiala started to turn things around and get more confidence from Hiller and the Kings. Fiala had a three-game goal and multi-point scoring streak in three consecutive wins (including two over postseason teams) for the Kings in early February 2025.

Hiller and the Kings continued to show more confidence in Fiala in the postseason. He registered seven points in six games for the Kings in the first round of the playoffs in the West against the Oilers, before LA was ultimately knocked out again by Edmonton in the postseason.

Kevin Fiala 2024-25 Los Angeles Kings player season recap

2024-25 season stats: 81 games played, 35 goals, 25 assists, 60 points, -7

2024-25 advanced stats: 14.3 shooting %, 7.8 5-on-5 shooting %, 2.4 points/60, 6.8 point shares, 4.0 WAR

2024-25 possession metrics (with Kings): 56.5 CF%, 56.1 SCF%, 98.2 PDO, 56.5 HDCF%

Fiala finished up the last regular season tied with winger Adrian Kempe for the team lead with 35 goals scored. That said, he finished up with 60 total points, the fewest he's scored in a single season in the past three years in the NHL.

Once Fiala found his scoring touch in the regular season's second half, his skill and goal-scoring production took over for the Kings top six forward core this past season. Fiala netted 19 goals and over 30 total points in the regular season's final three months for the Kings, including a handful of game-winning goals in clutch time.

Playing alongside young and talented forwards with the Kings' top-nine core up front this past season, like Quinton Byfield at center, Fiala was able to become a key part of that unit in 5-on-5 and special teams on the power play. He'll need to be a big play of an improved power play unit for the Kings to find more success offensively, putting the puck in the net this upcoming season in the 2025-26 campaign.

Kevin Fiala 2025-26 Los Angeles Kings season preview

Fiala is going into the fourth year of his seven year contract with the Kings for this upcoming season. Considering his cap hit around $7.8 million for the remaining few years of the deal he signed a few years ago, the Kings probably need more production from Fiala this upcoming season.

The Kings finished 26th in the NHL in power play goal scoring last season, tied with the New York Rangers (37). While Fiala was one of the few positives coming away from the Kings' power play last regular season, this is definitely an area of improvement for LA going into training camp and the preseason.

Fiala has proven to be a really skilled player who also takes the occasional untimely bad penalty for the Kings. He's registered over 50 penalty minutes for the Kings and Minnesota Wild in three of the past four campaigns in the West.
