First place in the Pacific Division standings in the West can be determined today on Black Friday on the holiday weekend for Thanksgiving between the Los Angeles Kings (11-6-6) and the Anaheim Ducks (14-8-1). The Kings and head coach Jim Hiller hit the road for the first time this week after completing a short two-game homestand to face the in-state and division foe Ducks on Black Friday.
The Ducks jumped out to a first-place lead in the Pacific Division standings this fall early in the regular season. But the Kings have closed the gap in recent weeks, including a win over the Ottawa Senators in regulation on home ice this past Monday night (Nov. 24) by a score of 2-1.
This is probably the most high stakes regular season matchup between the Ducks and Kings in the West in the past few years. The last time the Kings and Ducks both made the playoffs in the West in the same postseason was the 2017-18 campaign, almost a decade ago.
The Kings have won a dozen of the past 14 matchups against the Ducks in the regular season in the Pacific Division against the Ducks in the past few years, including winning three out of the four matchups in regulation this past season in the 2024-25 campaign vs. Anaheim.
