The Los Angeles Kings dropped the opening game of the newly-named Golden State Rookie Faceoff on Saturday afternoon against the San Jose Sharks, with head coach Andrew Lord's squad falling short by a score of 8-5 on Sep. 13.

Lord and the Kings are back at it on Sunday afternoon (Sep. 14) to face the Anaheim Ducks in the rookie faceoff at FivePoint Arena at Great Park Ice in Irvine, CA.

After the Kings faced the Sharks yesterday, only the matchup against the crosstown rival Ducks remains for this even in the rookie faceoff this weekend on Sep. 14.

The Kings and Ducks are both looking to avoid going winless in the rookie faceoff, after LA and Anaheim both fell to the Sharks by multiple goals in the scoring margin on the scoreboard earlier this weekend.

Despite getting off to a fast start in the offensive zone, going up by a big margin of 4-0 in the first period yesterday, the Kings lost the second and third periods by a margin of an 8-1 score against the Sharks. The Sharks scored two quick goals with the special teams on the power play after the Kings swapped goalies halfway through the second period.
