Recent Los Angeles Kings draft pick and highly-regarded forward prospect Jan Chovan has signed a deal with the franchise for an AHL tryout agreement this spring and late this season in the minor league and developmental pipeline. On Wednesday morning, the Kings made the move to sign Chovan to an AHL amateur tryout deal with the affiliate Ontario Reign this spring in the minor league and developmental organization.
Los Angeles Kings ink top center prospect Jan Chovan to an AHL tryout agreement this week
The Reign officially announced the move on their X account on April 8 that the Kings' organization had signed Chovan to an AHL tryout deal in the middle of this week.
This past year in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, the Kings picked Chovan in the sixth round (184th overall). The big 6-foot-3 and 190-pound 19-year-old Slovakian forward could possibly make his AHL debut later this week or this upcoming weekend for the Reign this spring in the Kings minor league and developmental organization.
Chovan started out this regular season in the 2025-26 campaign with the Sudbury Wolves in the Ontario Hockey League this past fall. He started out this regular season in the OHL with the Wolves in Sudbury playing at the winger position on the top-nine forward lines core group for the team.
But Chovan switched to the center position in the active roster lineup for the Wolves in the OHL this regular season this past couple of months. He's been immaculate for the Wolves at the center position offensively in the zone this regular season in this past few months, leading the team in most major stat categories, including goals and total points.
He's also been a major weapon for the Wolves on special teams on the power play, leading the team in special teams goals this regular season. This type of versatility and scoring prowess and playmaking that Chovan brings to the table could be very valuable down the stretch this regular season in Ontario with the Reign in the AHL in the division crown race push this spring.
