Former Los Angeles Kings goalie and fifth-round pick of the Sabres in the 2013 NHL Draft, Cal Petersen, will be making his first appearance on the roster for the Minnesota Wild in the NHL this regular season tonight on home ice.

Cal Petersen will make his first appearance in the active roster lineup in the league tonight for the Wild after spending five seasons with the Los Angeles Kings a few years ago

In a move with an emergency condition on Monday morning (Feb. 2), the Wild recalled former Kings goalie Petersen from the AHL affiliate Iowa Wild for goalie depth tonight in the West. The Iowa Wild account on X posted on Feb. 2 about the official announcement from Minnesota general manager Bill Guerin that Petersen was being recalled early this week on Monday.

This move to recall Petersen from Minnesota's AHL affiliate in Iowa early this week on Monday comes as Wild goalie Jesper Wallstedt is reportedly out for tonight's game on Feb. 2 vs. Montreal.

It sounds like Petersen is expected to be the backup goalie tonight for the Wild in Minnesota in their game against the Montreal Canadiens in the West on home ice in the Twin Cities.

This is the first time this regular season in the West that Petersen has been called up to the Wild in the league in the NHL. The Wild had signed Petersen to a one-year contract last offseason in the summer of 2025, but he was waived this past fall.

Petersen last played a game in the league in the NHL a couple of years ago with the Philadelphia Flyers in the East in the 2023-24 season in the Metropolitan Division. He registered a record of 2-2-0, an .864 save percentage, and a 3.90 goals against average in five games played and four starts with the Flyers a couple of years ago in the 2023-24 campaign in the East.

In 17 starts with the Wild in Iowa this regular season in the AHL, Petersen has registered a 4-13-0 record, .897 save percentage, 2.82 goals against average, and two shutouts.

Petersen played five seasons for the Kings in LA in the late 2010s and early 2020s decade (until the end of the 2022-23 season). He made 106 appearances and 98 starts in a half-decade roughly playing in net for the Kings in the West in the Pacific Division, registering a 44-42-10 record, .905 save percentage, 2.92 goals against average, and four shutouts.
