Thanks to solid efforts from the Los Angeles Kings' (8-5-4) top-nine forward lines and the blue line in front of Darcy Kuemper, head coach Jim Hiller's squad defeated the Montreal Canadiens (10-4-2) for a ninth straight time on Tuesday evening (Nov. 11). This was also the fourth win in a row on the road for the Kings early in this six-game road trip in the East in the middle of this week.
Two goals from Quinton Byfield and Joel Armia help the Los Angeles Kings come up with one of the season's most convincing road wins vs. Montreal
The Kings got multi-point nights from forward Quinton Byfield and defenseman Joel Edmundson, who combined for a couple of goals and four total points by the end of the middle frame yesterday.
Other goal scorers for the Kings in the dominant 5-1 win over the Habs in Montreal were forward Joel Armia, forward Warren Foegele, and forward Kevin Fiala. Armia got to score a goal against his former team in his return to the Bell Centre on Tuesday for the Kings.
Byfield and Armia spoke to the media after the Kings beat the Habs in Montreal by four goals at the Bell Centre yesterday.
It was nice to see both Byfield and Armia get on the stat sheet, scoring goals against the Canadiens yesterday for the first time in at least five games for both players for the Kings this fall.
Here's a look at everything Byfield and Armia said to the media postgame following the Kings' convincing 5-1 win on the road over the Canadiens in Montreal on Nov. 11.
Joel Armia
On scoring a goal against his former team
"That was special for sure. Really awesome moment for me. I played here for a long time and that felt really good."
On how the team responded after giving up the game's first goal in the first period
"I didn't I don't think we played bad or anything in the first. We knew that we had all the elements to come back. Just stick with it and play our game. It was a good period. But they just happened to score."
On Joel Edmundson also scoring vs. Montreal in the first period
"He probably has a harder shot than on our team for sure. That was a beautiful shot for sure. Yeah, great goal."
On the team having more success on the road than at home early this regular season
"No, I wouldn't say anything special. Just win when (we're) at home or road doesn't matter. You got to just show up every night and play hard."
Quinton Byfield
On scoring the game-winning goal last night vs. Montreal and snapping his goalless streak
"It’s obviously nice, been a few games, so that one was everyone’s good, but more importantly, I feel like we had a really solid game and came up with two points."
On how the team played after the Canadiens got the early lead in the first period
"I thought our first period went pretty solid. Coming in down one is not the spot you want to be in. We came out just kind of as we did; we started off good in the game, and as the period went on, we gave it to them, and then we came out and responded again. Good three goals there."
On playing alongside Kevin Fiala on the second-line forward group
"It’s good playing with him. When he’s going, I’ve always said he’s one of the best players when he’s rolling. Whenever I hear his voice getting called, I’m looking for him. I want to get him the puck as much I can and get open for him."
On why the team is having more success on the road than at home early this season
"It's weird. Like two years ago, same thing. We're hot on the road. Last year we're hot at home. Now we're hot on the road. So, can't say anything about that. Just how it goes sometimes, but you want to get some wins at home. But we got to finish the road trip strong first."
On Joel Armia scoring a goal against his former team
"That’s an Army goal right there for you. I feel like, as much as I watched him playing against him prior, he’s one of the best PKers in the league, he’s always working hard, he’s always doing stuff out of practice, he’s always ready, and he’s always competing. I feel like what’s underrated is his finishing ability and the skill that he has, mixed all together on that goal. It was nice to see him score one on his return."
On Joel Edmundson's goal in the first period
"He has a bomb, so going to the net's hard when you see him shooting. It was good to see that go in. I mean, he's been ripping those all year, and we want him to continue to do that. As well as he plays defensively, he has a lot of upside offensively. Seeing that go in was huge."
