It is going to be a busy few hours across the league as the NHL Trade Deadline is this afternoon, and the Los Angeles Kings should be considering all their options. In an ideal world, the Kings add a right-handed goal-scorer that could line up in their Top 6. However, adding more depth should always be a consideration.
On Friday morning, Nick Kypreos updated his Trade Board on SportsNet and included Winnipeg Jets' forward, Alex Iafallo. He began his career with the Los Angeles Kings and spent six seasons with the Kings. Iafallo appeared in 420 games and had 85 goals and 119 assists during that time period.
Kypreos wrote about Iafallo that the Los Angeles Kings liked him as a player, which could be an indication that they might be interested in bringing him back.
"Iafallo spent six years in Los Angeles before they traded him in the Pierre-Luc Dubois deal, but they always liked the player."
The Kings would trade Iafallo to the Winnipeg Jets during the offseason ahead of the 2023-24 season as part of the trade that brought them back Pierre-Luc Dubois. It was one of the worst trades by Rob Blake as Dubois lasted only one season in Los Angeles and cost them Gabriel Vilardi.
Alex Iafallo would be a great addition on the Los Angeles 4th line
One of the issues for the Kings this season has been their fourth line which hasn't really been able to produce much. By adding Iafallo, it gives them another option to improve that line but also maybe help their power play.
As Kypreos notes, Iafallo can contribute on power play but also on penalty kill. This season, Iafallo has eight goals, but four of them have been on the power play.
Iafallo is in the final year of his contract and would be just a rental player for the Los Angeles Kings. However, it seems like a trade that could really help address some of the issues the Kings are having with their forwards.
