LA Kings looking to sign a goalie this summer?
While the Los Angeles Kings could go a number of different directions this offseason, one position they weren't expected to have to worry about is goalie. While David Rittich is set to be a free agent, the Kings already have seemingly the goalie already set to replace him in Erik Portillo.
The former third-round pick has been with the Kings for a few seasons now after they traded for his rights with the Buffalo Sabres. It seemed logical that he would be the backup this season behind Darcy Kuemper, who was a Vezina Trophy finalist after an incredible season.
However, if Pierre LeBrun is correct, the Kings could be looking to add a veteran goalie, and the player he mentions is Jake Allen (subscription required).
As much as it is a risk to go into a season with a rookie goalie like Portillo, the Kings being interested in Jake Allen doesn't make much sense. This is not because Allen wouldn't be a good player to add but in an offseason with limited options at the position, there is probably a team that is going to overpay for him.
When considering the needs the Kings have, they don't have that luxury with the cap space they have to outbid other teams.
