Vladislav Gavrikov is set to join the New York Rangers

One rumor that has been picking up steam for a few weeks now is not only Vladislav Gavrikov leaving the LA Kings in free agency, but signing with the New York Rangers. Recently, Elliotte Friedman on 32 Thoughts was discussing Aaron Ekblad and almost in passing said that if Gavrikov is not staying in Los Angeles, then the sentiment around the league is that he will join the New York Rangers.

The match between Gavrikov and the New York Rangers makes plenty of sense, as they could certainly use a veteran like Gavrikov to help solidify their defense. The question is whether or not the Los Angeles Kings can make a late push to sign him to an extension before free agency.

As much as they want to bring him back, the fact that he is this close to free agency the chances they can get a deal done seem unlikely. In the end, Gavrikov leaves this offseason for the Rangers and replacing him will be one of Ken Holland's top priorities.
