The Los Angeles Kings have reached roughly the quarter mark of the 2024-25 season and have had some big highs along with some really low lows to begin the season. When looking at the start of the season, these were the best and worst periods for the Kings.
Los Angeles Kings Worst Period: vs. Chicago Blackhawks (3rd Period)
Let's start with the worst period and that has to be the third period against the Chicago Blackhawks. Entering this game, the Blackhawks were one of the worst teams in the NHL and the Kings were at home coming off arguably their best win of the season with a 6-3 win over the Golden Knights.
The Kings got off to a great start in this game against the Blackhawks and entered the third period with a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, it was a different story as the Blackhawks would quickly tie the game up with two goals in roughly the first five minutes of the period.
Even with the game tied, the Kings would once again get the lead after Phillip Danault would score his first goal of the season. The Blackhawks though wouldn't give up and scored a game-tying goal with just over 30 seconds left in the period.
The game would go to overtime and then a shootout where the Blackhawks would win the game. While the Kings would get one point, the struggles in the third period against a lesser opponent cost them a point.
Los Angeles Kings Best Period: vs. Minnesota Wild (3rd Period)
The Los Angeles Kings have been rather inconsistent this season, which is maddening for fans. The reason is that they will lose to teams like the Blackhawks but prove they can play with some of the best in the league like the Minnesota Wild.
That was the case at the beginning of November in a back-to-back road trip that started with a win against the Nashville Predators before heading to Minnesota. After a scoreless first, the Wild got the scoring going in the second period before the Kings scored two goals to take the lead into the third.
It was in the third period that the Kings would really take over and put the Wild away, something they have struggled with at times. Trevor Lewis would score a goal in the first 10 minutes of the period to give the Kings a two-goal lead.
Quinton Byfield would extend the lead before Lewis added an empty net goal to really put it out of reach for a final score of 5-1. On the road against a top team, this was one of the best periods for the Kings in the early part of the season.
