Brandt Clarke has goal overturned but responds with assist to give Kings 3-1 lead
The Los Angeles Kings were in Ottawa on Monday to play the Senators in a game that is a homecoming for Brandt Clarke. The 8th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft grew up in Ottawa and was playing today's game in front of a number of family and friends.
Clarke certainly is doing his best to give them a show as he had an assist in the first period on Kevin Fiala's goal that got the scoring started. Then in the second period, it looked like he was about to add a goal to his stat line after redirecting a shot by Quinton Byfield.
Ottawa would decide to challenge the goal and after review it was clear that the puck bounced off the post and didn't cross the line before Clarke would crash into the net.
Brandt Clarke doesn't waste any time adding a second assist for the Los Angeles Kings
After a delay of game penalty by the Senators, the Kings were once again back on the power play shortly after Clarke's goal was waived off. On the power play, Anze Kopitar would find Clarke at the top of the circle that would keep the puck moving down to Adrian Kempe, who would score his first goal of the season.
These two assists today would be the first two points of the season for Brandt Clarke but they shouldn't be the last. He has proven today against the Senators to be a valuable piece of their power play unit and that will continue the remainder of the season.
