Defenseman Kyle Burroughs suffered an upper-body injury in the Los Angeles Kings preseason game on Tuesday night (Sep. 30) against the Utah Mammoth at Idaho Central Arena in Boise, ID. Burroughs suffered an upper-body injury after blocking a shot early in the game in the 3-2 win over the Mammoth on Sep. 30.

Kyle Burroughs misses practice for the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday

Zach Dooley of LA Kings Insider reported on Oct. 1 that defensemen Joel Edmundson and Burroughs both missed practice for the Kings on Wednesday.

Kings' head coach Jim Hiller reportedly said that Edmundson missed practice on Wednesday due to "maintenance". It sounds like Edmundson will be good to go for the Kings going into the upcoming regular season opener next week on Oct. 7 against the Colorado Avalanche.

Hiller reportedly "seemed optimistic about his [Burroughs'] status". But the team is still waiting on the results from additional testing for Burroughs' status late this week.

The Kings cut down the roster down to below 30 players late in training camp and the preseason this fall. Hiller and the Kings' staff are projected to keep seven or eight defensemen on the projected roster for this upcoming season in the West, including Burroughs and/or Jacob Moverare.

Including Edmundson and Burroughs, the Kings are projected to keep eight defensemen on the roster for this upcoming season. If both Edmundson and Burroughs return to practice and are ready to go for the upcoming regular season next week, the Kings are projected to have 13 forwards, eight defensemen, and two goalies on the roster this fall.

Burroughs has played five preseason games for the Kings this fall. He registered two assists and two total points this preseason for Hiller and the Kings in the past couple of weeks.

The Kings acquired Burroughs via a trade with the San Jose Sharks this past year to add depth to the blue line core. Burroughs registered three assists and three total points in 33 regular season games played for the Kings this past regular season.
