Brandt Clarke
Among the defense, there may not be a player with a brighter future than Brandt Clarke and he showed it at times early this past season. He would be a full-time NHL player for the first time in his career and played 78 games with five goals and 28 assists while leading all Kings' defensemen in points.
Unfortunately, it wasn't all good and during the middle of the season struggled to keep a consistent spot in the lineup. There is a case to be made this was not necessarily Clarke's fault but rather the coaching staff's concerns. Whether those concerns were justified or not is certainly up for debate.
Entering this upcoming season, it will be important for Clarke to continue to make the plays he did from the defense because the Kings really don't have that skill set outside of Drew Doughty, who struggled with the ankle injury after his return.
If the coaching staff continues to Clarke and let him work through some of the growing pains of a young player, he can certainly build on last season.
