Alex Laferriere
Alex Laferriere had an incredible start to the season and had 15 points through the first 16 games. However, he has hit a bit of a slump as of late with no points in six straight games before Wednesday's game against the Jets.
Coincidentally, the Kings would go 2-4 in those six games and while Laferriere wasn't the only determining factor, it certainly didn't help. However, against the Jets Laferriere started to look more like the player from earlier in the season and had two assists (one in even strength, and one on the power play).
For this game, Jim Hiller had Alex Laferriere on a line with Kevin Fiala and Samuel Helenius and similar to the other forward lines this group really meshed well together. The Kings should continue with this group until it doesn't have the same impact.
David Rittich
David Rittich only saw 14 shots all game and it was a relatively quiet night for him. However, it was great to see him bounce back the way he did after he allowed seven goals against the Sharks on Monday.
The Kings really didn't have much choice but to continue with Rittich as Erik Portillo was not going to make his first career NHL start against the Winnipeg Jets. It certainly could have been a disastrous game for the Kings but Rittich looked tremendous on Wednesday night.
For him, and maybe the team, the play of the night came early in the second period when the Jets were awarded a penalty shot. At that point, the Kings were only up 1-0 and if the Jets were to tie it up here, momentum could have swung back to the Jets. However, Rittich made that save and protected the Kings' lead.
