Too many penalties in the third period by the Kings

Certainly there could be a debate on if the penalties that were called in the third period were warranted against the Kings but the fact of the matter is Los Angeles could not afford to give Winnipeg those advantages. The Jets would have two power play opportunities and capitalize on the second one when Mark Scheifele scored off an assist by Gabriel Vilardi.

This season, the Kings have been pretty good at killing penalties and had a penalty kill percentage of 82.6%. However, the Jets have the best power play unit in the NHL entering Friday with a league-leading 40 power play goals and a power play percentage of 32%.

Los Angeles Kings can't capitalize on three power play opportunities

The two penalties against the Los Angeles Kings were compounded by the fact that they couldn't capitalize on their own power play opportunities. They would have three power plays in this game but could only muster three shots with the man advantage.

The struggles on the power play is nothing new for this team but this game might not have been as close as it was if the Kings could have converted even one of them into a goal. The NHL Trade Deadline is less than two months away and if there is one thing they have to address, it should be the power play units.
