The most intriguing remaining forward on the unrestricted free agent market late this offseason is former Montreal Canadiens winger Patrik Laine.
At just 28 years old and playing only five games this past season with the Canadiens due to an injury, Laine has the potential to be a low-or medium-risk and high-reward late-summer signing in free agency this offseason and before training camp this fall.
There aren't really all that many players remaining available in free agency late this summer who can provide the type of boost on special teams on the power play and with high-end goal scoring that Laine can hypothetically give the Kings.
Just one year ago, Laine was coming off a season where he scored 20 goals, including 15 on special teams on the power play in just 52 games played in the 2024-25 campaign.
That said, Laine's recent injury history and uncertainty surrounding his availability create plenty of risk for the Kings. That risk could become much easier to absorb if his market has fallen to a low-cost one-year contract or even a professional tryout agreement.
The Kings wouldn't necessarily need Laine to come in and immediately carry the top line offensively. But he could give the Kings a helpful boost offensively on special teams on the power play this upcoming season, especially considering the value Los Angeles could potentially sign him for late this offseason.
