John Klingberg, D
Veteran defenseman John Klingberg found some stability and success from the point in the offensive zone this past regular season with the San Jose Sharks in the Pacific Division. He scored double-digit goals in the regular season for the first time since the 2022-23 season.
After a few inconsistent seasons on the blue line with different teams around the league, Klingberg found his footing with the Sharks this past regular season. He was able to drive the play from the point, effectively move the puck up the ice in transition, and gave San Jose another source of offense on special teams on the power play from the blue line.
Klingberg has well established limitations on the defensive end of the ice, registering a -13 plus/minus and a 87.3 on-ice save percentage for the Sharks this past regular season.
But the offensive production Klingberg showed on the blue line for the Sharks this past regular season could hypothetically be enough for the Kings to consider bringing him in a low-cost prove-it contract for training camp this fall.
If the Kings want to bring in another proven puck-moving defenseman who can give new head coach Peter Laviolette and staff an experienced weapon from the point on special teams on the power play, Klingberg could be a good option to fill that role.
