Earlier this offseason, the Los Angeles Kings and general manager Ken Holland already made some significant moves to help address roster needs via free agency.
But there are still some intriguing options available on the NHL free-agent market with training camp quickly approaching. At this point in the summer, Holland and the Kings don't really need to make another move.
Los Angeles already has plenty of competition and veteran depth laden throughout the roster entering training camp in the next few weeks. And any additional signing would probably need to come at a relatively low cost or on a professional tryout.
These remaining free agents could provide the LA Kings with some extra depth before training camp
Multiple recognizable veterans remain unsigned late this offseason, including players who could potentially give the Kings another scoring weapon or create additional competition and depth on the blue line.
Here are four possible late-offseason free agents the Kings should consider at least kicking the tires on signing before training camp and the preseason this fall.
Nick Blankenburg, D
Former Colorado Avalanche and Nashville Predators defenseman Nick Blankenburg is one of the most intriguing and capable young blue-liners left in free agency late this offseason. Blankenburg has been a regular contributor on the blue line for the Predators and Avalanche, scoring double-digit goals and over 30 points in this past two seasons.
If the Kings and Holland wanted to bring in a young defenseman who could help shake things up on the blue line going into camp this fall, Blankenburg is probably the best option left available in free agency late this summer.
I think there is actually a strong case to be made that Blankenburg would be the most logical defenseman for the Kings to potentially sign on a low-risk deal late this summer and before training camp.
