Vladislav Gavrikov
Another option for the Buffalo Sabres that could improve their defense is Vladislav Gavrikov but it would have to be a very different approach for the Sabres. When considering they have younger players like Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power, adding a veteran like Gavrikov to help lead this group could make a lot of sense.
Gavrikov has played in over 400 NHL games but this current season is arguably the best of his career. In 53 games, he has three goals, 16 assists with 108 blocks, and a career high in ice time of over 24 minutes.
The challenge with including Gavrikov is that he is set to be a free agent after this season. If the Buffalo Sabres are confident they can re-sign him to a long-term deal, it might make sense if the plan is to compete sooner rather than later. However, Jordan Spence would probably be the preferred option.
