It was clear with the moves made by Ken Holland and the Los Angeles Kings that they wanted veteran experience, particularly Stanley Cup experience. They certainly got that with players like Corey Perry and Brian Dumoulin but it comes at a cost.
That cost is that there are a number of younger players that now are essentially blocked from any meaningful ice time next season. When looking at the roster, these are four players that might be impacted the most by the recent free agent moves.
4 LA Kings greatly affected and potentially blocked by free agent signings
Samuel Helenius
Samuel Helenius spent a majority of the season with the Los Angeles Kings and played in 50 regular season games. He was an excellent fit on the fourth line and with Tanner Jeannot brought physicality to the forwards.
Now with Jeannot in Boston and the addition of Corey Perry and Joel Armia there really isn't a clear way to get him into the lineup as the roster is currently constructed. One potential scenario that could change that is if the Kings were to move Alex Turcotte as part of a trade to upgrade a part of their roster.
It is hard to imagine they would do that anytime soon, and going into the season, Helenius probably is a healthy scratch most nights.
