Manny Malhotra (Abbotsford Canucks head coach)

Abbotsford Canucks AHL head coach Manny Malhotra is among the younger head coaching candidates that the Kings and Holland could consider hiring this offseason. Malhotra has NHL assistant coaching experience with the Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs in this past decade.

Reporting this past weekend indicated that the Kings and Maple Leafs are two teams that are expected to at least kick the tires on the possibility of interviewing Malhotra to be their next full-time head coach this offseason.

Malhotra’s developmental background and recent success at the AHL level could appeal to a Kings organization still trying to balance veteran expectations with a younger, emerging core.

DJ Smith (former LA Kings interim head coach)

Despite mixed reactions from portions of the fanbase, DJ Smith remains a legitimate candidate to keep the job permanently after helping stabilize the Kings late in this past regular season. There is the possibility that Holland and the Kings give Smith a shot to prove what he can do with the team over a full season in Los Angeles.

Smith’s previous NHL head coaching experience and familiarity with the current roster could appeal to the organization if the Kings prioritize continuity moving forward.
