Ryan Donato

Ryan Donato was a popular trade deadline target but ultimately would not be traded by the Chicago Blackhawks. If he reaches free agency, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the Blackhawks re-sign him before July 1st, he will generate plenty of interest from around the league.

Donato timed it perfectly to have a breakout season and set career highs in goals (31) and assists (31). In fact, he almost doubled his previous career high in both categories with 16 goals in 2021-22 with the Seattle Kraken and 18 assists in 2023-24 with the Chicago Blackhawks.

One of the concerns with Donato is that the performance he had this past season was the first time he showed he can produce at this level. When players make that much of a jump, it raises questions if the production is sustainable.

For the Kings, they shouldn't be the franchise to take the risk to find out and there are better options, that likely will be more of a value, that makes more sense for them to pursue.
