Improve the Penalty Kill

One of the biggest storylines that has been a constant across the three previous playoff series has been special teams. While the Los Angeles Kings have been better on the power play towards the end of this season, this has not been a strength and it is hard to imagine they can make drastic improvements in this series.

However, one thing they can focus on is limiting power play opportunities for the Oilers and when they do have the man advantage, not allowing them to score. In the previous three series the Oilers have had 56 power play opportunities and scored 25 power play goals.

In the past two series alone, the Oilers were scoring on 50% of their power play opportunities and entering this year have scored a power play goal in 11 consecutive playoff games against the LA Kings.

If the goal for the LA Kings is to play to their strength this season, which has been strong defense and timely scoring, they can't afford to give and let them capitalize on power plays.
