Forward Kenny Connors made his NHL debut this past regular season while playing two games for the Kings in early March against the Avalanche and New York Islanders.
After establishing himself in his first professional season, Connors will now look to show that his late-season debut with the Kings can be a glimpse into what's to come. He's looking to show that he's ready to compete for a permanent spot on the Kings' roster this fall.
Connors needs to specifically prove that he can make an impact on both ends fo the ice for the Kings in the middle of the lineup. He has the ability to win faceoffs and compete for tough puck battles on the boards, and make contributions on special teams on the penalty kill.
If Connors can take his game to the next level this fall, he can put himself in a spot to compete for a bottom-six role in the forward group entering this upcoming season.
The challenge for Connors will be separating himself from a crowded competition of young forwards working to earn opportunities in the bottom six. Just having a good training camp might not be enough. Connors must show Laviolette and staff that he his two-way ability and versatility can give the Kings something unique that they can't get from other players competing for this roster spot.
