Morgan Rielly, D
The idea of the Toronto Maple Leafs trading veteran defenseman Morgan Rielly has been a rumor reported throughout the entire 2020s decade it feels like. Rielly now has just a few years remaining on his current contract, which pays him a little north of $7 million in average annual value through the end of the 2029-30 season.
Of the three players on this list for the Kings, Rielly might be the most attainable on paper if Toronto decides to move him this offseason.
The Kings have prioritized adding a left-shot defenseman this offseason to pair on the blue line with young defenseman Brandt Clarke. And regarding his offensive production and upside on that side of the ice, Rielly could be a worthy top pairing with Clarke on the blue line this upcoming season.
In a hypothetical world where the Maple Leafs aren't looking for too great of a return for Rielly on the trade block this offseason, it would make sense for the Kings to be able to fill a need with a left-shot defenseman to pair with Clarke on the blue line.
Sportsnet reported a couple of weeks ago that Rielly's no-movement clause "could still be an issue" when it comes to trade talks with the Maple Leafs on the trade block with other teams this offseason.
That said, Rielly's offensive upside and proven experience could help the Kings fill a roster need on the blue line with a player who could make an immediate impact on and off the ice for the team this upcoming season.
