Brandon Carlo, D
Toronto’s trade for defenseman Brandon Carlo failed to fully stabilize the blue line the way the organization may have hoped entering the postseason. There is at least a realistic possibility that Toronto could consider moving Carlo, entering the final year of his contract, if the organization decides to reshape parts of the blue line.
Los Angeles will likely keep a large portion of its defensive core intact next season, although there could still be room for changes around the edges of the blue line. Veteran defenseman Cody Ceci is also likely to remain part of the defensive group because of his contract situation.
I do think there's a chance that the Kings could move Brian Dumoulin and/or Joel Edmundson's contracts on the trade block on the blue line on defense this offseason.
Carlo is the type of proven and experienced defenseman who can bring physicality, shut-down defense, and steadiness to the blue line for the Kings this offseason. At his best, Carlo has been known as a physical shutdown defenseman capable of bringing steadiness and defensive structure to a playoff-caliber blue line.
He is also still just 29 years old and entering the final year of his contract, making him the type of potential buy-low defensive option that could interest Los Angeles.
