Los Angeles Kings finally get an overtime win for the 2024-25 season

One of the biggest storylines of the season has been the Los Angeles Kings struggles in overtime, a trend that has carried over from even last season. This year, the Kings had five overtime games and in four of them lost in the extra period while the fifth was a shootout loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.

This game the overtime period was very different as the Kings were the one controlling the action for a majority of it. They continued to keep the puck move it around until Quinton Byfield was able to get a clear shot and beat Stuart Skinner for the game-winner.

The Kings struggles in overtime seemed to be magnified because of the fact that two of their last four games prior to the break went to overtime. An overtime win against the Oilers is huge because it gives the Kings two points and they are now tied with the Oilers, who gained one point with the overtime loss, in the Pacific Division standings.
