For the first time this preseason on the ice, the Los Angeles Kings and head coach Jim Hiller hit the road for a true road preseason opener against the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday (Sep. 23). For the second year in a row, the Kings faced the rival from the Western Conference foe Golden Knights in the Pacific Division.

Anton Forsberg stops over 30 shots on goal from the Knights in a multi-goal win for the Los Angeles Kings in the preseason on Tuesday

Drawing a slash from Trevor Moore for the special teams early in the first period, LA got a power play opportunity to get on the board tonight.

The Kings set the tone on the ice and on the scoreboard offensively around the net in the first period with a nice slot goal from Taylor Ward in the game's first eight minutes tonight.

Adin Hill and Anton Forsberg were calm and collected in the game's first period for the Knights and Kings.

Forsberg was a brick wall between the pipes for the Kings in the game's first period, stopping all 14 shots he faced from the Knights in the game's first 20 minutes, including two medium and high-danger chances on the power play from the special teams.

A combined 42 shots on goal after the game's first two periods only resulted in one goal for LA tonight.

The Knights blue line group couldn't help Vegas goalie Akira Schmid in net for the game's second goal early in the third period on a rebound scored home by Jeff Malott.

Momentum swung back in Vegas's favor later in the third period on a quick goal from Viliam Kmec.

The Kings spent more than three minutes in the Knights' offensive zone in the game's final 12 minutes to put the pressure on Vegas late. Trevor Moore scored the insurance goal for the Kings for the 3-1 win tonight.

Here are three takeaways from the Kings' two-goal win in the preseason road opener over the Knights on Sep. 23.

Liam Greentree and Henry Brzustewicz put Kings ahead early in the spotlight tonight vs. the Golden Knights

Liam Greentree and Henry Brzustewicz highlighted the young players who led the Kings into the first period on the road in the preseason opener tonight vs. Vegas. Brzustewicz helped the Kings hold the zone for the defensive core early, registering multiple shots on goal and scoring chances in the offensive zone area.

Brzustewicz has registered at least one scoring chance and multiple hits in all Kings' preseason games this fall since this past weekend.

Offensively, the Kings maintained steady pressure in the first period.

Greentree made an impact on the game in the first period's first five minutes, assisting the game's first goal from Ward early on tonight. He also assisted the insurance goal that salted the game away for the Kings late in the third period.

Anton Forsberg will be a quality backup for the Kings

Forsberg's testable consistency and reliability frustrated the Knights tonight and on the power play with their special teams. The Knights had four power play opportunities in the game's first 35 minutes.

Had it not been for Forsberg, the Kings probably would've gone into clutch time in the third period trailing behind on the scoreboard vs. Vegas tonight. He stopped 25 shots while shutting down a buzzing Vegas power play on special teams in the game's first two periods.

Forsberg showed resilience and toughness in net for the Kings, stopping all five Golden Knights shots late in the third period and while Vegas had an empty net. Forsberg stopped 31 out of 32 shots, including double-digit scoring chances from the Knights in Vegas.

Back-and-forth in the final period frame

The Kings' top nine forward core lines were buzzing early in the game's third period. Ward and Greentree both got scoring chances for the Kings in the third period's first six minutes tonight.

Turcotte and Malott look to have natural chemistry with the odd-man break goal in the third period to double the Kings' clutch-time lead in this game.

Turcotte's speed and breakout have led to multiple Kings' game-winning goals in the preseason's first two games this fall for Hiller and LA.

The Kings stepped up with the top forward lines late in the game in clutch time to hold off the Knights for the win in Las Vegas at T-Mobile Arena again this fall in the preseason on the road.
