In Game 2 of the road trip this week in the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Kings (3-3-2) battled the Dallas Stars (3-3-1) at American Airlines Center in the Lone Star State. The Kings had a chance to build momentum on this West road trip this week after a big 2-1 overtime win this past Tuesday at Enterprise Center against the St. Louis Blues.
Adrian Kempe and the Los Angeles Kings defeat the Dallas Stars in overtime to build a two-game winning streak on the road
For the fourth time in the past five games, the Kings went to overtime. And for the second game in a row, the Kings came out victorious in overtime against a playoff team from the West.
Jim Hiller and the Kings started the first period tonight slowly in the offensive zone against the Stars. In the game's first 15 minutes, the Kings only mustered a half-dozen shot attempts and just two shots on goal against Jake Oettinger and the Stars on that end of the ice.
Corey Perry broke the ice for the Kings on the scoreboard late in the first period, converting on a goal in front of the net when LA had the 5-on-3 man advantage on special teams before going into the locker room at the first intermission.
Early in the game's second period, the Kings and Stars traded goals to tie the game and then put LA back up 2-1 on the scoreboard. Cody Ceci scored his first goal as a member of the Kings' blue line tonight in the second period, which gave LA the one-goal lead about halfway through the middle frame.
It looked like the Kings had taken a multi-goal lead in the second period after a goal from Alex Laferriere on a tip-in shot from the point to extend the lead to 3-1. But the goal was called back on a high stack after a long review by Toronto and the referees.
Joel Armia took a bad high-sticking penalty for the Kings early in the third period, which the Stars capitalized on to tie the game at 2-2 on the scoreboard.
But Darcy Kuemper and the Kings staved off a few high-quality scoring chances for the Stars late in the game in the third period. Kuemper stopped two high-danger scoring chances from the Stars in the game's final four minutes to help keep the game tied and send the contest to overtime.
Adrian Kempe played the role of hero again for the Kings, registering an overtime game-winning goal for the second time in as many games for LA this week on this road trip in the Western Conference against the Stars and Blues.
Here are three takeaways from the Kings' 3-2 overtime win over the Stars at American Airlines Center on Oct. 23.
Corey Perry adds life to the Kings' power play in the first period
In the past couple of games, Perry has been instrumental to helping the Kings find more success in the offensive zone, especially on special teams on the power play. The Kings' first goal of the game tonight was scored by Perry with the power play unit for LA in the opening frame.
After drawing a penalty late in the first period in the opening frame, Perry put home a puck in front of the net in front of Oettinger to get the Kings the lead on the 5-on-3 on special teams.

Perry was a major contributor when the Kings needed him on the fourth line forwards and the power play on special teams tonight.
Darcy Kuemper gets off to a hot start for the second game in a row on this road trip
You could make a good case that Kuemper was the MVP and the first star of the game for the Kings tonight in the clutch win in overtime vs. Dallas. Kuemper stopped 29 out of 31 shots on goal from the Stars, including stopping double-digit scoring chances from Dallas.
Especially in the game's first two periods, Kuemper was fantastic in goal for Hiller's squad. Kuemper stopped 21 shots and let just one goal in. He also stopped all seven high-danger scoring chances he faced from Mikko Rantanen and the Stars in the game's first 40 minutes, including a couple of highlight-reel saves with the glove.

Kuemper has been tremendous in net for the Kings in the past two games. He's registered a .939 save percentage and two wins in overtime for the Kings in the past three days against the Stars and Blues.
More Adrian Kempe heroics in overtime for the Kings vs. Dallas
The Kings' top point scorer early this regular season has played his best when the team needed it the most in clutch time in the past couple of games this week against the Blues and Stars in overtime.
Kempe gave the Horns down celebration after sending Dallas home with a loss in overtime tonight at American Airlines Center. For the second straight game in this crucial West road trip, the Kings got a game-winner in overtime from the team's top scorer, Kempe.

Not only did Kempe score on the Kings' overtime goal, but he also registered an assist on the goal by Ceci in the second period that gave LA the lead back to respond to Dallas' first goal tonight.
