Optimism: Phillip Danault with two goals
One of the things that was discussed alot about this Los Angeles Kings team was the depth they have across their entire roster, from the forwards to their defensemen. That was on display against the Oilers and there was no better example than Phillip Danault.
The Kings center is not known for his goal-scoring and is more of a defensive center that is tasked with shutting down some of the top lines on the opposing teams. He certainly did that at times but he also contributed with two goals against the Oilers, including the game-winner in the final minute of the third period.
It was an impressive showing by Danault, who had only eight goals on the season and didn't have a two-goal game once during the regular season. The last goal he had was on March 30th against the San Jose Sharks.
The depth the Kings have puts them in great position to get production from some of the unlikelest players, like Danault, and that can only help their chances to advance.
