Day 1 of free agency saw general manager Ken Holland and the Los Angeles Kings make headlines with some impactful signings to address multiple roster needs, including adding center depth and a top-six playmaker.
While most of free agency signings have slowed down around the NHL in this past few days, there are still quite a few experienced and proven veterans who are still searching for new teams. Holland and the Kings have addressed multiple roster needs this offseason since the opening day of free agency.
These veteran free agents could provide the scoring, experience, and depth the Los Angeles Kings are still looking for
Although the first wave of free agency is in the rearview mirror, multiple experienced and proven veterans remain unsigned. After addressing multiple needs on the opening day of free agency, the Kings and Holland still have a chance to strengthen the roster before training camp and the preseason this fall.
Here are three remaining unrestricted free agents who could be impactful additions for the Kings going into training camp and the preseason in a couple of months this fall.
Patrik Laine, W
One of the highest-upside gambles that Holland and the Kings could make this offseason among the remaining unsigned unrestricted free agents is former Montreal Canadiens and Columbus Blue Jackets winger Patrik Laine.
If he's fully healthy, Laine can still be a top goal scorer in the NHL. There is a real risk with signing him, as Laine hasn't played over 60 games in a regular season since 2019-20.
I've mentioned Laine multiple times as someone who would be a medium-risk, high-reward signing for the Kings to add another potent scorer and electric playmaker offensively this offseason.
Laine would represent a bigger gamble than we've seen Holland and the Kings take otherwise this offseason. But he also has the potential to outperform a short-term contract if the Kings were to hypothetically sign him this summer.
