Most of the signings and headlines surrounding free agency for current and former Los Angeles Kings players have come and gone late this offseason. The bulk of the signings on the unrestricted free agent market took place on Day 1 on July 1 this offseason.
And while most NHL rosters are nearly set for the upcoming 2026-27 season, there are a handful of familiar former Kings players who remain available in free agency this summer.
Which former Los Angeles Kings are still unsigned?
Here's a look at three former Kings' players who are still looking for contracts going into the upcoming 2026-27 season.
Cam Talbot, G
The 39-year-old Talbot can still fill the role of a dependable veteran backup for a team that needs more goaltending depth late this offseason and going into training camp and the preseason this fall.
Talbot played one season for the Kings in the 2023-24 campaign. He helped get the Kings to the playoffs while representing the team in the NHL All-Star Game in 2024. Talbot registered a 27-20-6 record, a sound .913 save percentage, 2.50 goals-against average, and three shutouts.
Ben Hutton, D
Ontario native defenseman Ben Hutton was a contributor on the Kings' blue line in the 2019-20 regular season. Hutton played 65 games for the Kings in the 2019-20 regular season, registering four goals, 12 assists, and 16 points.
Hutton has spent most of his NHL career in the Pacific Division and most recently served as a depth defenseman for the Vegas Golden Knights, including helping the franchise win the Stanley Cup in 2023.
Arthur Kaliyev, F
Former second round pick of the Kings in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft (33rd overall), winger Arthur Kaliyev never quite lived up to expectations of being a top 40 pick in the draft. Kaliyev spent four seasons in Los Angeles, including back-to-back 25-point campaigns in 2021-22 and 2022-23.
Due to a combination of injuries and inconsistency, Kaliyev never developed into the consistent top-six forward the Kings envisioned when they selected him in the second round of the 2019 draft. He was eventually waived in the 2024-25 season, and he was picked up by the New York Rangers in January 2025. Kaliyev spent this past regular season with the Ottawa Senators on a two-way contract.
The offensive upside and raw talent Kaliyev brings could still make him an appealing forward target for teams looking for a low-risk signing or a professional tryout going into this fall.
