The LA Kings are going to want to upgrade their roster this offseason to hopefully compete in the playoffs and make a run at a Stanley Cup. If the Kings were to trade for Bowen Byram, they not only would take a step towards that goal this season but provide stability long-term for their defense.

Byram is a former first round pick of the Colorado Avalanche who was traded to the Buffalo Sabres during the 2023-24 season. He would have a breakout season in his first full-year with the Sabres with a career-high 31 assists and 38 points.

If the Kings were to trade for Byram, they would almost certainly have to have a new contract agreed to as he is a restricted free agent this offseason. However, at 23 years old the Kings should feel comfortable offering up to a seven-year contract.

One other consideration that the LA Kings need to keep in mind is that general manager Ken Holland said when he joined the Kings that the focus is adding to the core and not doing a complete overhaul. With that in mind, these three packages can achieve that goal of Holland and improve the defense this season and beyond.
